History/Biography: Prince Rupert was declared a public harbour in 1912 and a national harbour on March 9, 1972. The first shipment through Fairview Terminal was 600 tonnes of frozen herring loaded aboard M/V/ Shuyo Maru in February 1977. A port Development Commission was created on March 22, 1966. The limits of the harbour were extended in 1966. In 1966, 117 ships entered Prince Rupert Harbour with timber, grain, and ore as the dominant exports. The National Harbours Board at Prince Rupert became the Prince Rupert Port Corporation in the early 1980s and later the Prince Rupert Port Authority. W. Joe Scott was chairman of the board for many years and was instrumental in the development of the port.
Scope & Content: The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence, reports, Harbour Master records, fisheries report (1972), and maps of the National Harbours Board in Prince Rupert.
